Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was taken to the hospital on Friday after an intruder broke into their home and attacked him, the speaker’s office said in a statement.
The attacker is still being held by police, and his motive is unknown. Early on Friday morning, someone broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco, but the Speaker was not there.
According to the Associated Press, which relied on sources familiar with the investigation, Paul Pelosi “suffered blunt force injuries to his head and body” after being “attacked and severely beaten by an assailant with a hammer.”
Their sources claim that the attack was not random and that the attacker deliberately targeted the house.
The information was released in a statement from the speaker’s office by Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill.
