Ocasio-Cortez Pretending To Be Handcuffed After Arrest At Protest

Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York, were escorted away from the Supreme Court on Tuesday. As they were leaving, they appeared to be pretending to be handcuffed, which drew mockery from the right.

Ocasio-Cortez and Omar joined an abortion rights protest by the Supreme Court that blocked traffic, resulting in Capitol Police removing her. They were joined by left-wing “Squad” members like Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., and several other House Democrats.

Ocasio-Cortez was seen on camera walking away with a police officer holding both her and another protester’s arms while grinning and posing with her hands behind her back as if she were in handcuffs, but she wasn’t. She confirmed that she wasn’t being restrained by raising a fist to the crowd at one point in a show of unity. Omar could also be seen in a video leaving the protest while posing as if she were in handcuffs with her hands behind her back.

The image went viral on Tuesday afternoon, and Ocasio-Cortez, a lightning rod of criticism on the right, was predictably mocked for seeming to play up the drama of her encounter with law enforcement.
