WATCH: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Endorses Trump

( – In his bid to become the Republican nominee for president of the United States, former president Donald Trump received the support of Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

President Trump and Governor Abbott gave Texas DPS troopers and National Guard members assigned to Operation Lone Star, the border security mission, an early Thanksgiving lunch shortly before the endorsement event.

President Trump and Governor Abbott gave tamales at a pre-Thanksgiving meal for Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, National Guard Soldiers, and Airmen.

Abbott’s Operation Lone Star assigns the troopers and guardsmen to border security duties.

Along with Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Attorney General Ken Paxton, Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, and Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, Abbott becomes the fifth governor to support the former president in the 2024 Republican primary.

In his 2020 presidential contest against Joe Biden, then-President Trump secured 52% of the vote. The Lone Star State gave roughly 5.6 million votes to Trump.

A significant factor in the 2020 Texas election was border issues. In the final year of President Trump’s presidency, Fiscal Year 2020, Border Patrol agents dealt with little more than 400,000 migrants.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Southwest Land Border Encounters Reports, agents encountered just over 407,000 migrants under the Biden administration’s immigration and border policies in the last two months alone.

The governor’s support came after President Trump and the governor fed DPS troopers and Texas National Guard members an early Thanksgiving meal.

And once again, Joe Biden is nowhere to be found.
