13 Insane Ways To Use Garlic For Survival

Mosquito Repellant

Garlic can become a safe, natural and chemical-free way to prevent mosquitos. All you have to do is soak the minced cloves in mineral oil for a full 24 hours. Then take an empty spray bottle and combine the garlic with 1 tsp lemon juice and 2 cups water inside it. Shake up the mixture and use it to spray all around your house (or all over yourself) to keep mosquitos at bay.

Prevent Infection

Garlic is known for its antibacterial properties – which makes it quite useful when you’ve gotten a superficial wound. Simply make a garlic salve to place over the wound. Then wrap it with a bandage to compress the wound to the garlic. This can help prevent bacteria from spreading into the wound. Meanwhile, eating garlic can give you an additional boost of antibacterial properties.

Rustle Up Some Grub

Here’s a cool trick. Many fish absolutely love garlic. And though this might sound odd, many fishermen swear by it in order to lure fish onto their hooks. Even better, some fishermen go the extra mile by combining marshmallow, crackers and cat food and forming the mixture into balls. Coat them with powdered garlic and, according to some fishermen, you will easily catch those fish in no time.

Relieve Cold Sores

Cold sores are just plain uncomfortable. However, garlic can help ease the pain. Simply cut a clove in half and place it onto the cold sore for a few minutes. Repeat this process several times per day to help decrease the sore. And, of course, you can eat the clove afterward to keep those health properties coming in.

Fix Your Vision

Here’s an interesting survival tip. If you’ve got hairline cracks in your glass lenses, you can stop them from getting out of hand. Simply crush up some raw garlic, and rub the juices onto the inside and outside of the lenses. Wipe away the extra, and this will help prevent the lenses from cracking further.

Take Out The Splinter

Got a painful splinter? Simply cut a thin piece of raw garlic and lay it on top of the splinter. Place a bandaid over the top, and leave it for a few hours. After a day or so, remove the bandage. You’re likely to find the splinter has moved toward the surface of the skin, allowing you to easily remove it.

Kill Off Parasites

It’s not uncommon for people in survival situations to have parasites living/growing in their gut. And whether they are aware of them or not, this can pose a huge problem for their health. Thankfully, raw garlic can help treat this issue. By consuming 2-4 raw cloves of garlic per day, you can work to remove these painful and unsightly organisms.

Keep The Cold Away

Due to garlic’s antibacterial and antiviral properties, garlic can be a helpful addition to your anti-cold regimen. The moment you feel yourself getting sick, consume 3-4 cloves of crushed raw garlic. Then repeat this throughout the day. This will help ensure you gain the maximum health benefits.

Keep Away A Cough

If you come down with a cough, garlic can help reduce the severity of it, as well as the irritation it causes. Simply steep raw, minced garlic in a pot of boiling water for 5 minutes. If desired, you can add honey and ginger. Then let it cool, and consume. It may not taste delicious, but it’s chock-full of cold fighters to help you get well ASAP.

Fight Yeast Infections

Garlic is known for its ability to kill yeast – which makes it essential at the first signs of a yeast infection. Simply place raw, minced garlic into a cheesecloth. Then use a tampon applicator to insert the cheesecloth. After a day or two, the garlic will likely be able to kill the yeast.

Decrease Intestinal Gas

Some people claim that regular garlic consumption aids them in having less uncomfortable gas. This is because it can help prevent the formation of gas-causing microbes in your gut. Keep in mind it’s important to remember that, when taken consistently enough, your body may build a tolerance to it – so eat it for a few days, and then lay off for the next few.

Ease Ear Infections

Garlic is a natural antibacterial, making it useful for relieving ear infections. In fact, people have been using it for centuries to help reduce their pain.

For this method, simply crush a raw clove of garlic and allow it to sit completely submerged in warm (but not hot) olive oil. Let it be for a few minutes. Then strain out the garlic and pour just a few drops into the ear canal. You may have to tip your head to the side for a few minutes to ensure it drains in.

After you let it rest for a few minutes, continue on with your day, wiping off the excess oil as necessary.

Help Relieve Psoriasis

Psoriasis is painful to deal with as it is – so in an SHTF situation it’s going to seem far worse. Luckily, you can use garlic to help treat it.

Combat Athlete’s Foot

Although this condition isn’t necessarily life threatening, it can be seriously bothersome. Thankfully, once again, it’s garlic to the rescue.

Add a few cloves of crushed garlic to a large, shallow container warm water and let them sit for a few minutes. Then dip your feet into the container and let them soak for about 30 minutes. This process will allow the garlic to get to work on the fungus that causes athlete’s foot.
