Israel to Approve a 4-Day Pause Deal for 50 Hostages

A deal that will see the release of at least fifty female, child, and elderly captives over four days by the Palestinian terror group Hamas in exchange for a halt to combat in the Gaza Strip was accepted by the Israeli government on Tuesday night.

Israel will free more Palestinians who have been found guilty in exchange for none who have been found guilty of murder.

As soon as the hostages are freed, and the four-day timeframe ends, Israel will continue its campaign to destroy Hamas.

According to The Times of Israel:

“Hamas has said it has 210 of the about 240 hostages taken from Israel during the October 7 atrocities. Islamic Jihad is said to be holding the remaining hostages.

According to the developing deal, Hamas will release at least 50 Israeli hostages, mainly women and children, in exchange for a ceasefire of four days, the release of between 150 and 300 Palestinian prisoners, and the entry of fuel and other goods into Gaza.

Some 12-13 hostages will be released per day as the ceasefire takes effect, the source says, adding that Israel will release women and minor prisoners, with each returning to the city or town where he lived prior to imprisonment, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem.”

Israeli negotiator Moty Cristal told reporters in a briefing on Tuesday that Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, had probably already made up his mind to die a martyr when he ordered the October 7 strike.

That did not imply, however, that he would not use the interim to accomplish other objectives through negotiation.

Cristal stressed that although removing Hamas’s military danger in the Gaza Strip was the declared, equal policy goal, Israel’s primary reason for going to war was to liberate the hostages.
