If you’re preparing for SHTF, you’ll want to learn how to make emergency rations for survival.
There’s no doubt about it. These emergency bars are excellent for emergencies. Since you’re making them yourself, you’re able to perfectly portion these rations to your liking.
Not to mention, unlike canned and freeze-dried survival foods, these emergency rations require zero preparation, heating or boiling of water. All you have to do is unwrap, eat, and enjoy. What could be simpler?
Plus, these emergency rations save you money. Unlike buying expensive pre-made foods that are a one-and-done solution, you can make these inexpensive survival bars time and time again. And, when you’re able to buy the ingredients in bulk, you’re likely to save even more money.
These emergency rations are very high in calories, and will help keep you full (and give you energy) in a crisis. However, they are NOT meant to be your only food source. Make sure to eat these alongside other nutritious foods to have as balanced a diet as possible. Doing this will help give you your best chance at survival.
Collect Your Ingredients
This recipe requires…
Food Ingredients:
- 3 Tbsp Honey
- 2.5 cups Powdered Milk
- 3 Tbsp Water
- 1 cup Sugar
- 2 cups Whole Grain Oats
- 3 oz Jello Gelatin (any flavor)
- Parchment Paper
- Mylar Bags
- 9 x 13 Pan
Start Mixing
Measure out and mix the powdered milk, oats and sugar together in a bowl until they’re evenly combined.
Start Cooking
In a separate pot, mix the water, honey and jello mix. Stir it together and bring it to a boil.
Now Combine
Once the mixture is boiling and stirred well, turn off the hear and add the contents of the pot to the bowl. Mix all ingredients together thoroughly.
Time For The Pan
Line the pan with parchment paper, and then pour the combined mixture into the pan. Spread it evenly around to ensure an even consistency and thickness.
Cut & Portion
This entire mixture contains a total of 3,000 calories. Thus, you must calculate how many calories you want to be in each bar (aka each ration) in order to sustain you throughout the day. For example, 3,000 calories divided by 8 bars = 375 calories per bar.
Remember – these are NOT meant to be your only food source. You’ll want to ration these out in small amounts to keep your energy up, while also eating other nutritious foods as necessary.
Once you’ve decided how many bars to make, use a knife to cut out the bars, making them as even as possible. Lay out the bars on the pan, making sure none of them are touching each other.
Bake The Bars
Bake the bars at 200°F for 2 hours. Once they finish cooking, remove the bars from the pan and place them on a separate sheet of parchment paper. Let them rest until they cool completely.
Store For Later
Place the bars in mylar bags, making sure they’re completely sealed and airtight. This will ensure an optimum shelf-life.
