Democrats INFIGHTING Over Support for Israel

( – After repeatedly calling Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) a “coward” in an interview and stating, “We can handle it like gentlemen or we can get into something else,” Democrat infighting over Israel threatened to become violent on Friday.

Carson was reacting to a post made by Gottheimer on X in which he called 15 Democratic colleagues who voted “present” or against a House resolution endorsing Israel “despicable.”

Prominent progressive Jews criticized Carson over his threat.

The Anti-Defamation League’s CEO, Jonathan Greenblatt, posted:

Later, Gottheimer made an effort to defuse the tensions by saying on social media that “it’s more important than ever for us to talk to each other” and that he was grateful for colleagues who did support the bipartisan resolution:

Nevertheless, the episode brought to light differences regarding Israel between Democrats in Congress and the general public.

Thousands of progressives nationwide have demonstrated against Israel’s military response to attacks by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, which resulted in the bloodiest atrocities against Jews since the Holocaust, killing over 1,400 people in southern Israel.

The demonstrations took place on college campuses and in major cities.

Even in the US Capitol, there were demonstrators headed by Muslim and Palestinian-American congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).

Six Democrats voted “present,” including Representatives Gregorio Casar of Texas, Julian Castro of Texas, Jesus Garcia of Illinois, Pramila Jayapal of Washington, Ayana Pressley of Massachusetts, and Nydia Velaquez of New York.

On the other hand, Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Andre Carson, along with seven other Democrats, including Jamaal Bowman of New York, Cori Bush of Missouri, Al Green of Texas, Summer Lee of Pennsylvania, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Delia Ramirez of Illinois, voted against the resolution that supported Israel.

Not just Gottheimer expressed his disapproval of Democrats who voted against the measure.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) declared on CNN that those who voted against the resolution “do not have a soul” and that she “vehemently” disagreed with Tlaib and her conduct “throughout this process.”

It doesn’t seem like the widening gap will get any smaller soon.

Israel began its offensive into Gaza over the weekend, and it is anticipated to persist for several months.
