AOC Sparks Controversy: Questions Supreme Court's Legitimacy

( – On CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said that the US Supreme Court was no longer legitimate.

Ocasio-Cortez commented on Clarence Thomas of the Supreme Court taking gifts, stating, “He indicated that the reason and logic for this exemption was personal hospitality from an old friend. And he identified himself as a 25-year pal in his statement.

“Justice Thomas has served on the Supreme Court of the United States for 30 years; therefore, he is admitting in his speech to justify himself that he started this relationship with a millionaire and started getting these kinds of gifts after he was appointed to the position.”

According to AOC, that alone, in her opinion, points to a very, very significant issue.

“Should the Justice Department look into this?” Asked anchor Dana Bash.

“I mean, I feel that what we’re seeing right now is a breaking of the law, and we have to look at what institutions,” Ocasio-Cortez added.

I am aware that there are demands. I am aware that the Chief Justice is wanted. Roberts started looking into it. Particularly with the Supreme Court leak last year, which never came to a resolution due to the investigation that Chief Justice Roberts launched back then, I do not believe that this court has the legitimacy it once had.”

“I think mentioning a position with a built-in conflict of interest because it is used by those justices to conduct that investigation is severely damaging. I firmly believe that the House should proceed with an impeachment proceeding to conduct that probe,” she added.
