9 Weird Survival Uses For Chocolate

Christmas is upon us and desserts are front and center – which means it’s time to talk about all the survival uses for chocolate.

Candy bars, syrup, ice cream, cake, ice cream cake… chocolate is found in all these decadent desserts (and more). However, most people think of this as simply a delicacy and nothing more.

However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. It turns out there are lots of survival uses for chocolate – many more than just feeding your stomach and tantalizing your tastebuds.

You’ll be the smartest one at the Christmas party once you discover these…

9 Weird Survival Uses For Chocolate

Boost Morale

Chocolate isn’t just good for keeping your stomach full. It also contains compounds that improve your circulation, benefit your mood and even act as a minor stimulant.

Brush Your Teeth

You may associate chocolate with CAUSING cavities rather than preventing them. However, this association isn’t necessarily true. Turns out chocolate’s mildly abrasive qualities help it become a DIY toothpaste in times of need. Better yet, you can swallow as much of this “toothpaste” as you want!

Keep The Rust Off

Want to keep rust off your knives, car and metal survival tools? Simply rub on a light coating of oily chocolate to keep the rust at bay.

Barter For Something Better

Chocolate is one of those delicacies that people always seem to long for – no matter what the circumstance. Gather enough of it to trade, and then barter it off for something you’re in need of. (Just make sure to save some chocolate for yourself!).

Shine Up Your Tools

Nobody likes a dull signal mirror. Luckily, you can shine it up (and get rescues in the process) with the help of chocolate. Simply rub some oily chocolate onto the object, and then wipe it clean with a piece of cloth. Thanks to its natural oil and mildly abrasive qualities, it’ll make these survival tools look like new again.

Bribe Your Kids/Spouse/Friends

When most preppers think of an SHTF scenario, they think of their warrior-like friends and family, and pushing through together like the little soldiers they are. Unfortunately, crises often bring out the worst in people. And you’re likely to have more than one fight by the time the day is done.

Thankfully, chocolate is a natural peacekeeper. If you need something done, bribing the person with chocolate is a surefire way to get them to do it – and with a smile on their face to boot.

Lubricate Stiff Joints

Technically I’m not talking about joints on the human body. However, you can rub a small amount of chocolate to lubricate a bow drill. Simply push some chocolate into the handhold socket, and you can drill your way to a fire in no time.

Trap Animals

Need some grub? Many animals will be attracted to chocolate… making it excellent bait for catching raccoons, opossum, skunks and more.

Raise Your Body Temperature

Ready to make makeshift hot chocolate? Melt a chocolate bar in a cup of hot water. The heat will help raise your body temp. and help prevent hypothermia. Meanwhile, the calories will help sustain your body.
