12 Reasons To Add Peanut Butter To Your Go-Bag

peanut butter

Few preppers (or non-preppers, even) don’t understand how truly amazing peanut butter is. This incredible invention is full of protein, lasts for years thanks to its natural oil, and is very nutritious. Not to mention, it tastes delicious by itself, on a banana, or in a sandwich (to name just a few).

I’ll bet you didn’t know just how good for you P.B. can be, though. According to CNN:

Peanut butter is rich in heart-healthy fats and is a good source of protein, which can be helpful for vegetarians looking to include more protein in their diets. A 2-tablespoon serving of peanut butter contains up to 8 grams of protein and 2 to 3 grams of fiber. The nutty spread also offers vitamins and minerals including the B vitamin niacin, iron, potassium and vitamin E.

But what may be news to you is just how versatile peanut butter is. After all, its flavor, nutrition, and shelf-life aren’t the only thing going for it. It turns out there are other reasons you’ll want to to use a jar of this stuff once SHTF!

It’s imperative to prepare for anything and everything that may be coming up. That’s why you’ll love learning about these…

12 Reasons To Add Peanut Butter To Your Go-Bag

Keep in mind that you’ll want to use smooth and creamy peanut butter for most of these ideas. However, if crunchy peanut butter is all you have, that’ll do in a pinch.

1 – Get The Gum Out

Kids + gum = bad combination. They get it stuck in their hair, or in the carpet, or who knows where else. Luckily, you have the power of peanut butter by your side. Since the peanut butter has natural oils in it, these will gently lift the gum off the surface.

Lightly spread the peanut butter over and around the gum, and let it sit for a few minutes. Then gently wipe everything away with a cloth.

2 – Helps With Hunting
3 – Substitute For Butter

Butter is a staple in most any kind of cooking. As such, you might find out you run out rather quickly! If this happens, just substitute it for smooth peanut butter. It’ll work just as well, and will give your food a tasty, nutty taste.

4 – Lock In Moisture

Let’s be honest. Your hair is going to get gross once a major emergency hits. And although this is no beauty pageant, you’ll want to feel fresh and clean as possible when the big one hits. After all, when you feel like you look decent, this boosts your morale and you’re more likely to have a fresh outlook on things.

That being said, you can massage peanut butter into your hair to help moisturize it. This works great if your hair is dry and brittle from the harsh conditions. Wash the peanut butter thoroughly, and then use shampoo immediately afterward. It’ll surprise you how shiny your hair will get!

5 – Get The Kids To Take Vitamins/Meds

Vitamins are ultra important when SHTF. However, picky children (and even pets, if you bring them along) can make it a real pain to give them their daily dose of vitamins or medications when they’re sick. Conceal the pill in a spoonful of peanut butter, and it’ll hide the taste and smell – they won’t know the difference!

6 – Give Yourself A Shave

Like #4, when you look good you feel good. And most every man could use a good shave to boost his morale and keep pressing on. Which is why peanut butter is so important – if you don’t have shaving cream (or you run out) you can always substitute smooth peanut butter to shave the scruff away. The oils in the P.B. will work to moisturize your face, and will help prevent razor burn and cuts.

7 – Use It For Hunting

Mice may like going after cheese in the cartoons, but in real life they actually don’t love the stuff. What mice do go crazy for, though, is peanut butter. place a spoonful at the end of a mouse trap and let it lure the rodent out from hiding. You can also use peanut butter to help you in your hunting by placing it in your traps and snares to help attract animals.

Pro Tip: Make a DIY birdfeeder by spreading peanut butter over a large pine cone, and sprinkling bird seed over it. Then hang the cones by a string or piece of paracord on a nearby tree. The birds will think they’re coming for a delicious snack, but little do they know they’ll be the snack.

8 – Catch The Spiders

When SHTF, you’re going to want to sleep without spiders, roaches and other bugs crawling all over you. Make a homemade bug trap by removing the lid off the peanut butter jar, and spreading the last bit of peanut butter onto the lid. Lay it where the bugs are, and dream sweet dreams. You’ll likely wake up in the morning with a lid full of bugs that are stuck to the peanut butter.

9 – Kill The Ants

Rather than having to buy some gross chemical spray to keep ants away, simply use peanut butter. Combine two teaspoons of it with 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon borax. Spread the mixture wherever ants are coming into your home – just keep your pets away from it.

10 – Replace WD-40

Who carries a can of WD-40 around when SHTF? Well, not you – especially not since smooth peanut butter works just as well! Apply the peanut butter to a squeaky hinge or a creaky drawer, and the natural oils will help cease them from making noise.

11 – Remove The Glue

If you’re busy with a DIY project, it’s likely you’ll get glue all over your hands. Rather than scrubbing them with soap, simply apply peanut butter to your hands and let it sit for a few minutes. The oils will loosen the glue, and make it easy to remove.

12 – Clean Your Windshield

If you plan on having a bug out vehicle when SHTF, you’ll love this tip. You can use peanut butter to clean off stubborn dirt, debris, and bug carcasses off your windshield! Rub the P.B. on the stuck-on bits, and let it rest for about 10 minutes. Then spray down the windshield, or use a wet washcloth to remove it. It’ll be all clear and ready for your next adventure.
