6 Ways To Use Epsom Salt In A Crisis

Most preppers have no idea just how lifesaving epsom salt can be in a crisis. And that’s why this information is so valuable.
Epsom salt has different chemical compounds than other salts, and isn’t suitable for consumption. However, it does have a surprising amount of uses that can help better a survival situation.

6 Ways To Use Epsom Salt In A Crisis

Make New Clothes

You won’t exactly be able to buy new shirts, pants, etc. at the store during an SHTF situation. As such, you’ll need to find more creative ways to replace your old, worn-out clothing.

Animal skills provide a warm, protective clothing replacement. And you can use epsom salts to aid in the tanning process of these skins.

Once you remove the flesh, apply epsom salts to the skins to decrease shrinkage. This will also help make them more durable and softer.

Get More Produce

Epsom salt is not good for eating. However, the salt’s sulfur and magnesium are wonderful for helping your survival garden grow and flourish.

Epsom salts can also be effective for pest prevention (such as slugs, raccoons, etc.). To stop pests in their tracks, simply sprinkle epsom salt all over the soil around the plants. Then repeat when the salt dissolves.

Lower Inflammation & Reduce Stress

If you think your muscles are sore now, just wait until you get into a crisis. With all that running, walking, lugging a heavy bug-out bag and work setting up a shelter, you can bet you’re gonna be feeling it by the end of the day.

If you can manage to find a large enough container to bathe in, make sure to soak your body in an epsom salt bath. Heck, even just soaking your feet in warm water with epsom salts can do wonders for relaxing the body.

As if you needed more of a reason to use it, studies show epsom salt baths can decrease stress and lower blood pressure. (This is great advice for everyday life, as well as survival situations).

Clean Out The Dishes

Epsom salt crystals have a very abrasive texture, which can work wonders when removing stubborn food on cookware. Just sprinkle the salt onto the bottom of the pots/pans and add a little water to create a slurry. Then scrub with the rough side of a sponge. The epsom salts will help remove the caked-on food without scratching up your cookware.

Relief From Itching

Poison ivy, bug bites and more can cause uncontrollable itching. And this can make any situation immediately seem 10x worse.

Give your body some necessary relief by making an epsom salt paste. Simply combine a little water with the epsom salts, and then lather the mixture onto the itchy skin. If the salts aren’t dissolving in the water, heat up the water and slowly add the salt to dissolve it. Remember, you’re making a paste, so you won’t need much water to get the job done.

Wash Your Face

Beauty won’t likely be your first priority when SHTF. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t wash your face in a crisis. (Especially considering the amount of bacteria and disease that will be spreading).

Washing your face with an epsom salt rinse can help cleanse and rejuvenate your skin. Not to mention, it’s been shown that epsom salt washes can help relieve sties and pink eye – another huge bonus.

Make sure to stock up on epsom salts by putting some in your survival pantry and some in your bug-out bag. You never know when you’re going to need it!
