4000 Migrants Captured Or Fled In One Texas Border Sector

Over the weekend, Border Patrol agents from the Del Rio Sector detained nearly 3,500 migrants who had entered Texas illegally from Mexico. These crossed in six sizable groups totaling nearly 1,200. More than 500 more are said to have escaped.

The nation’s busiest Border Patrol sector, the Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens tweeted a two-part weekend recap video highlighting its activities.

3,487 migrants were detained by Del Rio Sector agents over the weekend, according to Owens. By Monday morning, more than 3,000 people were still being held. Officials from the Border Patrol have classified an additional 529 as known fugitives.

The Del Rio Sector recorded more than 3,400 migrant arrests over the past two weekends.

The chief reported that over the weekend, nearly 1,200 migrants crossed in six sizable groups. Moving large groups of people across the border is a human smuggling tactic that uses up a lot of Border Patrol resources and can result in extended periods of time without line operations along the border.

Agents helped 11 migrants escape deadly situations as they entered Texas illegally over the weekend. Sadly, Owens reported that three migrants drowned over the weekend.
